PEKOE TRAIL 2027

The project

The Pekoe Trail is a long-distance hiking trail of more than 300 km that runs through the highlands of Sri Lanka. Inspired by the famous “pekoe” tea, it crosses tea plantations, villages, and mountains, following historic paths once used by tea estate workers. The trail offers an authentic immersion into nature, culture, and sustainable tourism.

Our goal is to hike 7 stages of the Pekoe Trail, around 100 kilometres over 5 days while adding a strong solidarity dimension: raising funds to support a local community.

Situation report

Our project aims to provide practical support to an early childhood education centre in Rosette, which consists of a single classroom serving 11 children aged 3 to 5.

The project focuses on renovating the centre to provide a safe, healthy, and child-friendly environment for both the children and the staff.

The main improvements include:

  • Installing a clean water supply and wastewater drainage system;

  • Constructing a new sanitation block, including toilets and handwashing facilities;

  • Repairing and rehabilitating the flooring;

  • Repainting both the interior and exterior of the building;

  • Strengthening and refurbishing the interior and exterior walls to improve the building's safety, durability, and overall appearance.

These improvements will significantly enhance the centre's hygiene, safety, and learning environment, creating a space that supports the healthy development and well-being of young children.

This project is carried out in collaboration with The Pekoe Trail Organisation (TPTO), an independent local non-profit organization committed to managing, protecting, and developing this national heritage.

Through this partnership, we ensure that our actions are part of a responsible approach, in close cooperation with local stakeholders.

We are also proud to be supported by tuktukrental.com, which will provide us with tuk-tuks whenever needed throughout the project. Beyond this logistical support, tuktukrental.com empowers local communities by creating opportunities for local people to earn a sustainable income from Sri Lanka's thriving tourism industry. Their commitment to responsible and community-based tourism aligns closely with the values of our project.

Our itinerary

Our itinerary will begin with Stage 8, before continuing through Stages 10 to 13, which offer a gradual immersion into the region’s spectacular landscapes. We will then finish with Stages 15 and 16, bringing this adventure to a close with memorable panoramas and a complete experience of the trail.
