PEKOE TRAIL 2027
The project
The Pekoe Trail is a long-distance hiking trail of more than 300 km that runs through the highlands of Sri Lanka. Inspired by the famous “pekoe” tea, it crosses tea plantations, villages, and mountains, following historic paths once used by tea estate workers. The trail offers an authentic immersion into nature, culture, and sustainable tourism.
Our goal is to hike 7 stages of the Pekoe Trail, around 100 kilometres over 5 days while adding a strong solidarity dimension: raising funds to support a local community.
Situation report
Our project aims to provide concrete support to a small school located in the Demodara Valley, which has a single classroom of 18 children aged 3 to 5.
Currently, the learning conditions are particularly challenging: the sanitary facilities are located directly inside the classroom, creating serious hygiene and well-being issues for the students. In addition, during heavy rainfall, the classroom is regularly flooded, disrupting activities and affecting the overall functioning of the school.
In response to these challenges, we are currently working to identify sustainable solutions, both in terms of sanitation and infrastructure.
Our goal is to significantly improve the learning conditions for these young children by providing them with a healthier, safer, and more suitable environment.
This project is carried out in collaboration with The Pekoe Trail Organisation (TPTO), an independent local non-profit organization committed to managing, protecting, and developing this national heritage.
Through this partnership, we ensure that our actions are part of a responsible approach, in close cooperation with local stakeholders.
Our itinerary
Our itinerary will begin with Stage 8, before continuing through Stages 10 to 13, which offer a gradual immersion into the region’s spectacular landscapes. We will then finish with Stages 15 and 16, bringing this adventure to a close with memorable panoramas and a complete experience of the trail.
